  5. Until now there have been basically four types of software:
  6.  
  7. 1.  Commercial Software such as WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, etc.  
  8.  
  9. 2.  Freeware (Public Domain Software)  Offered without charge to
  10. the user.  
  11.  
  12. 3.  Shareware.  This is the software such as PC-Write, PK-Zip, etc.
  13. that a user tries before buying. 
  14.  
  15. 4.  Scamware.  This is a term we have coined for the software that
  16. a company offers "absolutely free" through an 800 number.  The
  17. catch is that, in fine print, they ask for "$20.00 to coverage the
  18. expensive of postage and handling".
  19.  
  20. 5.  Payware.  This is a unique concept of Groff Software.  Under
  21. Payware the user does not pay the software author.  Instead the
  22. software author pays the user.  
  23.  
  24. We have talked to a number of software users and they were
  25. unanimous in their praise of the Payware idea.  
  26.  
  27. The programs BRAINO1-4 are hereby offered as Payware but there is
  28. a catch.  See the text file PRIZES.TXT.
